As Environmental Conservation Manager, Christina oversees efforts that not only help minimize the environmental impact of the community’s expansion but also enhance the surrounding ecosystem. It’s a role that focuses on sustainable land development, conservation practices, and long-term stewardship — ensuring that Babcock Ranch remains a place where both people and nature thrive.

Who Is Christina Kontos?
Christina Kontos is an environmental professional and wildlife biologist with a passion for conserving wild Florida and protecting the Florida Wildlife Corridor through the delicate balance of human population growth and ecological responsibility. She is passionate about making a lasting difference — for environmental conservation and for both current and future generations
“My role here at Babcock Ranch is all about ensuring that as we grow and develop, we’re doing so in a way that respects the land, the wildlife, and the environment around us. During development planning and activities, environmental mitigation involves planning and implementing strategies to reduce negative impacts on the ecosystem, including protecting native species and preserves, keeping habitats connected within the Florida Wildlife Corridor, conserving water, and maintaining the integrity of our wetlands,” says Christina.
Her expertise in conservation and mitigation efforts during development ensures that Babcock Ranch’s expansion doesn’t come at the expense of its ecological integrity.

The Role of Environmental Conservation Manager
Environmental conservation and mitigation efforts at Babcock Ranch focuses on strategies and practices designed to reduce the impact of development on local ecosystems. As Environmental Conservation Manager, Christina oversees multifaceted projects that protect natural habitats, manage wildlife corridors, and restore areas impacted by construction.
In addition to these technical responsibilities, Christina collaborates with local authorities and community stakeholders to ensure the development aligns with environmental regulations and standards. This proactive approach is crucial to Babcock Ranch’s goal of fostering a sustainable, environmentally responsible community.
Some of Christina’s primary responsibilities include:
- Land Conservation: Identifying and preserving 13,000 acres of various habitat communities of ecological importance that provide vital habitat connectivity for many plant and animal species.
- Land Management: Management of all habitat communities with practices including exotic vegetation control, exotic wildlife management, prescribed burning, supplemental plantings, wetland creation areas, and various other restoration activities.
- Wildlife Conservation: Monitoring endemic wildlife species that call these wildlands home, including the Federally endangered Florida panther, gopher tortoise, red-cockaded woodpecker and many more!
- Environmental Impact Assessment: Evaluating how the community’s growth will impact the local ecosystem and implementing strategies to mitigate these effects.
- Collaboration and Education: Engaging with local organizations, environmental agencies, and residents to promote environmental stewardship throughout Babcock Ranch.
- Innovative Sustainability Practices: Integrating sustainable practices into the community’s infrastructure in providing environmentally conscious direction and communication such as through water conservation efforts, heritage oak tree transplants, and sustainable practices that can be used to reduce daily negative environmental footprints.
“Every decision we make here at Babcock Ranch is informed by a comprehensive understanding of the land. It’s so rewarding to be able to share my knowledge and experiences with the residents of Babcock Ranch,” Christina says proudly.
